Why practice Chinese Kung Fu?

The practice of Chinese Kung Fu cultivates many things - confidence, calmness, mental acuity, martial excellence, focus, humility, physical awareness, fitness and respect.  Importantly, Chinese Kung Fu also opens the door to a deep and honest understanding and expression of one’s self and one’s abilities.

It teaches you to move as fluidly as a cat with the focus of a tiger.  It enables you to be as powerful as thunder one second and be as soft as cotton the next.  It shows you how to control your mind and body so you can concentrate on a single thought or action.  It opens your mind to the fact that there are more forces at play in life than we often realise.

Kung Fu teaches you what it takes to learn something properly, the hard work needed to genuinely achieve, why you should respect those that have given their time and energy to better themselves and why it is important to continue the knowledge and traditions of those that have gone before us.  Above all, Kung fu teaches you to help those who are looking for guidance, as your teacher did for you.

All these things you can take with you and apply to everything there is.

Kung Fu is by no means the only path to this understanding – but it’s certainly the most enjoyable one I’ve ever found.
